The latest The Warehouse catalogue advertises a ‘Snakes and Ladders’ drinking game for $14.82 and they also sell a ‘Noughts and Crosses’ drinking game ($9.99). These games can be found in the games and puzzles aisle alongside children’s games such as ‘Cluedo’ and ‘Mousetrap’.

Drinking games are notorious for resulting in excessive consumption and intoxication. They promote extremely risky drinking behaviours, says Alcohol Healthwatch Director Rebecca Williams. Their purpose is intoxication.

The games sold by The Warehouse come with no age restrictions.

‘Snakes and Ladders’ is traditionally known as a children’s game and Alcohol Healthwatch believes the link with alcohol drinking games is despicable.

One has to wonder how selling drinking games reflects the company’s social responsibility values, particularly in light of their application to gain a liquor licence.
