 Aug 2016:FASD costs in lost productivity:  The New Zealand Medical Journal have just published a paper by economist Dr Brian Easton and colleagues estimating the cost of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder on lost productivity in the New Zealand economy as being between $49million and $200 million each year. Submission Alert - Submissions on Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Display of Low-alcohol Beverages and Other Remedial Matters) Amendment Bill closes 9/6/16

A new bill about the sale and supply of alcohol intends to change the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 to  allow low and non-alcoholic drinks to be displayed for sale in the same “single-area” as beer and wine in supermarkets, and clarify that any company can hold a licence under the Act.

The Justice and Electoral Committee is now accepting public submissions on the bill. For on-line submissions

    Submissions are due this Thursday 20th August.  This Bill is to make changes to the SSA Act 2012, allowing licensed premises to extend their licensing hours beyond those already permitted during the 2015 RWC.

    Global Status Report on Violence Prevention 2014

    The World Health Organization has published the Global Status Report on Violence Prevention 2014. It makes seven recommendations to reduce multiple forms of violence including reducing the availability and harmful use of alcohol.   • The People’s Blueprint

    The Glenn Inquiry has published its final report on child abuse and domestic violence in New Zealand. “The People’s Blueprint” make strong recommendations on alcohol reform based on the Law Commission’s 2010 Report “Alcohol in Our Lives; Curbing the Harm”.      Newsletter Edition 4, Dec 2014   

    The report from the Ministerial Forum on Alcohol Advertising and Sponsorship was released on Wednesday 17th December 2014. The Forum has made 14 recommendations focussed on restricting the exposure of minors to alcohol advertising and sponsorship.  To read the recommendations in full click here.
